Our Story

From being young best friends, we have always loved the idea of a tea party. In 2019, we decided to make this little dream into a reality, and now we host a big tea party every day in our very own coffee shop.

The name Lyla’s was inspired by Lyla Belle, the daughter and niece of two of our co-founders! Friends and family are at the heart of our business, with lots of them joining us together on this journey as staff members. Lyla often visits the cafe, making sure we’re all doing our jobs to her standards (very high given she is only 6)! 

We are so proud of what we have achieved in our cafe so far, from opening our doors during the first lockdown, to now being able to invite our lovely customers to enjoy our food everyday!

All of our treats, scones, pies and quiche are homemade by us in our kitchen. It is a must for us that everything is fresh and homemade and you can really tell the difference! Check out our Shop page to get your hands on our Letter Box Brownies, Traybakes and Cookies!

Bird and Blend Tea Co.
Bird & Blend Co. are an independent tea mixology company and are B-Corp Certified, aligning with our values of sustainability. Bird & Blend are experts in innovative tea blends, supplying our favourite speciality loose leaf teas such as Blue Raspberry and Peppymint to name a few!

Jeeves and Jericho
Jeeves and Jericho are an artisan teasmiths brand that harness traditional flavours of tea with a fun and contemporary approach. They are also members of the Ethical Tea Partnership, taking care about where their tea is sourced and giving farmers a fair deal. We stock their classic loose leaf teas such as English Breakfast and Earl of Grey, and are two of our most popular cuppas!

Lonton Coffee Company
Lonton Coffee is a family owned business based in Teesdale, focused on sustainably sourcing and expertly roasting the highest grade coffee beans

Back in 2022 our team took a roadtrip to Lonton’s HQ in Teesdale, where we were able to see how they roast our coffee firsthand. The coffee is roasted in small batches using the latest Infrared technology, which has a lower environmental impact, producing less emissions compared to other roasting techniques. And also.. Tastes so good!

We use 100% organic triple certified coffee beans, which aren’t only delicious but are ethical for the rainforest and also the people who grow them. They are rainforest alliance certified, fair-trade and have soil association accreditation, making it the most sustainable coffee we can buy.

Roy Blythe’s Butchers
All of our meat is local, produced right here by Blythe’s butchers in Hartlepool, an institution in our town since 1982. Our meat is high quality and we only use free-range eggs!
